It will remember the closed tabs from before on my laptop. If I open 3 tabs on Chrome on my laptop and then close Chrome, then shift to my phone and open 3 Chrome tabs on my phone and close them, then switch back to my laptop.

I don't have an Android device to test with right now to see if the feature exists on Android, but it seems someone had luck with chrome://flags:īut, let's say you don't use the new feature yet. Or, you can enable experimental flags - don't enable any experiments besides this, because experimental features can be unstable: type into Chrome: chrome://flags If you can't wait to be part of the first group to try it out, you can get the Chrome Beta here:

Next week, Google Chrome is going to start rolling out Tab Groups to make it easier to accomplish what you want to accomplish. What is the procedure for restoring them? Does logging back into Google and doing another sync restore all the lost open tabs? Sync is both the way to backup the tabs and restore the tabs? Then I make the changes to Chrome that I want to make, and my fear comes true: something goes wrong and all the open tabs on the tablet are lost. Let's say I *log in* from my tablet for the first time and do a sync. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ How is a user supposed to make sense of that? I posted that question elsewhere but have gotten no answers. Side note: Another complication is that one part of my Google settings says sync isn't working because I haven't logged in, while another section says sync was last performed a few hours ago. My concern was (and kinda still is, because you don't sound sure) that all my current tabs would be *replaced* by the old ones that are on the server. Maybe separated into groups by which device they came from, but still both there. So if I log in from my tablet and do a sync, your article suggests that I will be seeing tabs that were open years ago and they will be *combined* with the hundreds of tabs I now have open.

One of the reasons for concern is: The last time I *logged in* to sync Chrome was years ago, from a desktop computer. (And yes, I had already confirmed that my sync settings do include open tabs.) I need a way to make a *backup* of my open tabs, so that I can *restore* those same tabs to the *same* device in case something goes wrong. I'm aware of sync's usefulness in keeping my place as I move from one device to another, but that's not the benefit I need right now. I don't think you fully understood what I was asking, and as I reread my post I see how it could be confusing, because I have more than one question, making it hard to succinctly word what I'm trying to figure out.
